Can we build our immunity to bad ideas? It turns out we can. In this book, I work out the basic principles of cognitive immunology, an emerging science of the mind. Then, I show how we can apply this science to become better critical thinkers. (Due out in May.)
Andy Norman is an award-winning author and public philosopher. He conducts research and develops tools that help people dialogue together in more fruitful ways. He writes for prominent national magazines like Free Inquiry, Skeptic, and The Humanist, and likes to speak on topics related to science and human values. HarperCollins will publish his book about mental immunity to bad ideas in early 2021.
Andy is developing the conceptual foundations of cognitive immunology—the emerging science of mental immune function. He thinks this science explains how ideologies short-circuit minds and corrupt moral understanding. He thinks that its applications will help us all become better critical thinkers. He's working on a "mind vaccine"—a way to inoculate minds against the worst forms of ideological contagion.
As a philosophical counselor, Andy helps people find stable sources of meaning and fulfillment. As a philosophical consultant, he helps organizations design ethical and sustainable practices.
